Lesson 1 - A Primer - Kirk, Charlie X, and Red Shirt “Sam”

A primer for Kirk Fu.

First, one must attend class to understand the basics of James T. Kirk’s unique fighting style.

Subsequent videos will explore real-world applications of Kirk Fu.

Lesson 2 - Kirk Vs. Gary Mitchell

Note the stuntman morph technique employed by Kirk.

Also, many punches, while appearing to miss their mark, do manage to make contact sound.

Unfortunately, when fighting a psionically superior being, one has to resort to dirty pool instead of letting the purity of Kirk Fu take over.  While there is allowance for dirty tricks during a Kirk Fu fight, one should be careful not to end a fight in such a manner.

But since Kirk is the master, he is allowed to get away with cheap shots.

Lesson 3 - Kirk, Spock, & Uhura Vs. Sulu

One aspect of Kirk Fu is unselfishly letting your teammates take the brunt of the action.

Strategically, one must be able to get out of harm’s way so that others may be put in it.  One cannot help but admire the vault over the bridge railing that Kirk employs to achieve this.

Then, when the time is right, Kirk moves in for a mind-blowing maneuver that leaves Sulu wide open for a nerve pinch from the always trusty Spock.

An elegant solution, arising out of the the inelegance of Kirk Fu.

Lesson 4 - ‘Enemy Within’ Kirk Vs. Wilson

Even Kirk’s dark side knows how to use Kirk Fu to achieve his means.

Evil Kirk feigns interest as a ruse before performing a three-pronged maneuver.  He starts with a “Shawshank Shower Head Pull”, follows with a quick chest tap, and finishes with a judo chop to his red-shirt crewman’s solar plexus.

Poor Wilson has no clue what hit him.

Lesson 5- Kirk Vs. Ruk

While Kirk Fu does allow one to improvise and fashion crude weapons from their environment, Kirk loses this fight which is why I’ve decided to call this particular lesson “The Phallacy of Kirk Fu”.

One has to wonder if the prop-master did this intentionally.

Lesson 6 - Kirk Vs. Finnegan

Throughout the course of his many fights, Kirk has often had lengthy encounters that one could almost describe as epic.

This particular scuffle suffered a delay, a cliffhanger commercial break, and an eventual final showdown.

To allow for the full appreciation of the power of Kirk Fu, I have conveniently broken up the fight into those very three elements.

On a personal note, I remember wanting to smack the crap out of Finnegan as well when I first watched this episode.

Lesson 6.2 - Kirk Vs. Finnegan (cont’d)

Finally, the fight is underway!

Here we have the classic struggle of young vs. old.  Kirk is facing his inner demons in the guise of a bully from his academy years.

It would appear Kirk ends up on the losing side of this battle, but he does employ some time-tested methods of Kirk Fu.

Also note the liberal use of the Stuntman Morph Technique, as previously used in Lesson 2, Kirk Vs. Gary Mitchell.

We shall see who prevails in the next installment.

Lesson 6.3 - Kirk Vs. Finnegan (Final)

Here it is! The final part of the epic Finnegan trilogy.

My coworker suggested naming this “Finnegan’s Folly”.

Sometimes Kirk Fu necessitates a drawn-out, knock-down, bar-fight style brawl.

While Kirk Fu might not always be a model of pugilistic economy, it gets the job done.

Bravo Kirk. Bravo.
